I wonder if thats the case?? Oreki isright about 3 things. 1. The message is made in panic which normally get repeated but this one didn't. Also the announcement was made after school classes were done rather than next day when student will be all present. 2. It was crime committed as he was made to meet shibazaki sensei in staff room. If it was just shoplifiting then how did they found out about if the person was from their highschool. Also this is leap of faith here but a shoplifting might not cause so much trouble either for them to hurry the announcement. So they must have gotten the clue from the person about who it could be. How?? The person must have felt bad and regrated their action and apologized to them. But then again the question why investigators were in tbe hughschool then?? The old couple must have realized what happened only after person regratefully admitted to the crime . But if it was minor crime the urgency would not be their. So it must be something else. Also remember vice-principal called him (knowing who he was) to the staff office this must have been done to find out something more. Ghe only other thing that would connect here counterfeit bill. But how something like counterfeit note comes in your possession is main thing to find out. Thats where i think 3. Thing that oreki said must have been correct. That it must have been money lended by person to someone else socially superior to them. So when he find out it was counterfait bill he did not gave it back but rather used it. Now old couple must have called police and investigator must have come to school (physically to find out more from him). Thats why they callex him in staff room. So that he would feel the pressure/safety there and reveal where he git the counterfait from. Thats also why it took investigators some time to get to school and urgent announcement. And the kne who got caught must have been one who returned another person in counterfait bill. Most likely got caught right there, luckly!!
