To add a bit of context about Oreki’s shortcoming, we got a foreshadowing in the first / second episode. Remember when he created a whole new story with the Secret society and stuffs just to evade Chitanda’s actual question? He considers doing what others ask from him to be tedious and go out of his way to conserve the energy of he is left alone to solve things. So far, it’s only coz of Ibara, Satoshi, and Chitanda who keeps him stuck to the line and ask him the right questions he could solve the mysteries. In this case again, he got manipulated by Irisu but he didn’t stick to the actual story, rather he went with a different script and might fool many without knowing the director’s perspective. That’s why after this incident he stand his ground and try to be as true to the plot when he solves anything as much as possible.

19:18 Idk if this was obvious to everyone but this is definitely Hotarou's sister. Irisu also said earlier in the arc that she heard about Oreki from 3 people: Chitanda, someone outside the school, and Togaitou (smoker guy). Oreki's sister was also from their school so it makes sense that her sister was a senpai to Irisu (Irisu calls her senpai in the chats). This, along with the "i will become a tree" and "i am curious" pun as a foreshadowing to the hyouka pun, proves how this anime is really well written. It casually drops small details that become clues or foreshadowing in the future.

After rewatching it the 3rd time I JUST REALISED, the chat at last was with oreki's sister and she is a genius above oreki to be able to find Irusu's true intend while being on the other side of the world.

my man satoshi fukube really gave him lots of hint's though… like from the tarot card lebelling oreki as the strength and then there is the empress. not to mention giving mayakasan as justice. also he was originally okay with it as long as oreki thinks of it as his story not the original authors story. But seeing how he said and reacted when asked about it, that really disappointed satoshi I think!! especially how he lied first to conserve his energy lied to Chitanda but then gets used by the empress so easily. thats why I think he was so pissed off. Mayaka doesn't care either way though she just want straight answer like a justice she wants everything to be considered, nothing spared. So she laid it out as it is. I still wonder why he gave himself the label of magician and chitanda-san lebel as fool, though!! i mean chitanda might seem like the card says but she is clearly smart enough to know her limit, as well. Also thinking himself as magician. hmm i guess it will take me more episode for that, as well!! thats all.
