i will never recover from realizing that the curse of contradiction means that zeref loved/ wants to spend eternity with mavis more than she felt about him and thats why she died. Zeref yearned so much for someone to share his pain and life that it overrides mavis' immortality.
I personally don't pity the dude because his way of him wanting to die is just dumb as hell

oh my, poor zeref 🙁 i literally feel pity for him. after all he been thru, he chose to close his heart to love and care. but when mavis made him feel loved and accepted, she immediately died.
how cruel it is for him to force himself not to feel any emotions, lost the value for life and "accepted his fate" just bcs he js wanted to see his brother.
everytime he mentions how he badly just wanna die clearly shows that it is better for him to die than for everything and everyone does.
Zered truly has to be one of the most tragic charcters in all of anime… like the man was cursed to live and watch everyone he loved die of his own curse. When Mavis was afflicted by the curse of contradiction, Zeref finally thought he'd found love that could help him withstand the curse, he loses Mavis too. The tragedy that he lost the one person loved in centuries but also the tragic realisation that Mavis did not love Zeref enough that her curse of contradiction would kill him too. There's also the fact that very brother who he resurrected was the reason he was afflicted by the curse. His brother he resurrected despises him, is his enemy and is hell bent on killing him.
Mashima please give this poor man a full au where he can live happily with Mavis and be Natsu's big brother without any curses 😭😭
