Oniyasha is granted a rematch dance contest against Zojiro. Yet the pain of his defeat still lingers, pushing him to the point where he no longer wishes to dance. Then, at his lowest, he is reunited with someone from his past.

📖 Synopsis:
In 1374, during the turbulent age when the Northern and Southern Courts were locked in conflict, the Northern Court’s shogun, Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, was becoming an increasingly dominant force.
Born the son of Kan’ami, head of the Kanze troupe of sarugaku performers, Oniyasha drifts through his days with a hazy question lodged in his heart: Why do people dance? His spirit remains clouded, until the day he encounters a dance that is truly “good.”
Curious, sensitive, and strikingly beautiful, the boy meets people, laughs, cries, confronts his own weaknesses, and slowly begins to shape a new form of dance for a world steeped in impermanence.

Let this kid have a break 😭
Wait wait.. So this is in 1374. Nigewaka is in 1333-1335. Seems like Tokiyuki Hojo lost the long game, as Ashikaga clan still in power 4 decades later.
Got so many questions
Up until last showdown ep: Oni has been away from Kanze troupe (Kanami/Oni's dad), as shogun's retainers, for 2 years.
Though what he did are menial works, reading books from his peeping tom fan, and walking the white dog. Is he performing off screen? 🤔
Kogane has been with Shinza troupe (?), then Dengaku troupe (Zojiro), then living in slum with southerner refugees.
Was he a young samurai before? He looks educated & kinda rich. Is his family wiped out?
Seems like Oni portrayal as clueless, lazy-naughty, prone to problem boy is necessary plot device.
BUT if he won showdown remedial magically (like his dad suddenly deemed Oni good enough to join the shogun), I might drop this 😑
